Environmental Awareness Club

Hi, I'm just an ordinary 6th grader and I created the Environmental Awareness Club. There are three other leaders who are Elisabeth, Sraavya and Mr. B-D. Without them this club wouldn't be here today. This is a club for everyone who loves nature. Everyone who is interested to in Nature can come and talk about their ideas and thoughts. Currently we are working on a project where we make beautiful chandeliers out of recycled plastic bottles to hang up around the school. Hopefully next year we will be able to create a little garden for this school. We also wanted to make a better garden at our new school and we could use recycled tire wheels to make garden pots and things like that. We can't wait to see what the future has in store for this club.

District Honor Music

Hi! My name is Luke Kim and I had the privilege of participating in the Canyons District Honors Orchestra. This was a great experience not only for me to make new friends, but to hone my skills in the art of music. None of this wouldn't have been possible without the help and support of our music teacher at Midvale, the lovely Mrs. Lena Wood.  She always encourages us to keep improving and to try our best, no matter the subject. At honors, we had the honor of being conducted by an incredible teacher and patron of the arts.

HI! My name is Jaida DeMill! I was able to participate in the Honors orchestra for CSD! It was an incredible experience! Even though it put my cello skills to the test, it really helped me improve myself! I was able to make new friends and learn to communicate with others. I loved the conductor at Honors orchestra! He was hilarious and made sure we worked hard. Honors helped me a ton! I am so thankful for Mrs. Lena Wood and her support for me. She has helped me learn that there is always improvements to be made. I haven't played cello for very long, but I was able to go to honors because of ALL Mrs. Lena Woods help! Thanks for nominating me Mrs. Wood!

Hello. My name is Juan Guevara. I had the incredible privilege to participate in the Canyons School District Middle School Honor Band. This is an awesome experience to be able to meet new friends from other schools and to me most important, put you musical skills to the test and see if you have what it takes to be in an honor band. We get to be conducted by some of the best conductors in the state. Our conductor this year was very nice but at same time strict, but he was chill either way. But I could not have gone to this incredible experience without the help of Mrs. Lena Wood. Thank you Mrs. Wood.

Number the Stars, an MMS Production

Hi. I'm Clara and I played Annemarie Johansen in our class's production of Number the Stars. I have loved working with our amazing teacher, Miss Lenhart, and everyone in the cast. We have become like a big family. We worked really hard and I feel that the theme of this production and the support of everyone involved has improved my acting skills immensely. The tech kids were especially great. Us students run the whole production and the lessons we've learned will stay with me forever. It was one of the best experiences of my life!

My name is Brynn and I played Kirsty Johansen in the play. I had so much fun. I spent many hours after school and during school working on it. I love this play and it is so much fun. I would like to thank Miss Lenhart for making this experience amazing. I had never taken theater until last year with her. I have gotten so much better with her. I would also like to thank my peers for memorizing there lines on time and helping me study the.

Hello, I am Alden and I played Peter in the play. It was so much fun making all of my friends. I had a great communicating with the other cast members. I loved working with the theater teacher Ms. Lenhart. We all worked very hard to make this possible. I would like to thank everyone for doing the best they possibly could. I'd like to thank everyone for helping me with the part.

MMS Dance Concert

MMS Dance Concert

After weeks of preparation the students in Ms. Monroe's class presented the choreography they have been learning over the past several weeks. They have been learning the different energy qualities that you can demonstrate in dance all year in preparation for the concert. Throughout the past couple of months the dancers have been focusing on performance qualities and being able to work together to make a masterpiece of movement.

The concert included  a different dance that was choreographed by
Ms. Monroe for her different class periods where every student was invited to participate if they qualified grade and behavior wise.  The concert included additional solos, trios, duets, and a quartet. Students had to audition these extra dances in front of Ms. Monroe and a judge to see if their choreography was accepted into the concert. The students spent all of their class time preparing for the concert by running through their choreography and perfecting every element of their dance.

Throughout the concert we saw many different motivations throughout the different dances. The dancers presented these motivations very well through the choreography. It was very evident throughout the concert how hard the students had worked. May it be perfecting smiling or straightening that leg, you could tell that they worked really hard to put on a show.

After performing for the parents on Thursday, April 21 and split assemblies for the school on Monday, April 25, the dancers definitely put forth a great amount of effort to put on the best show that they possibly could have.

My Favorite Teachers

The staff here is great. Here are a few examples. Mr. Cherry, a history teacher, is kind (unless you get on his bad side, well even then, really) funny, & understanding. Another great teacher is Miss. Goldberg, I had her in 6th grade for social studies. She is very relatable and for the most part and fun, funny, fun overall. I also really like the theater teacher, Ms. Lenhart. She is a kind, understanding teacher, not the best at puns.  If you show her respect, she will show it back, but she will get down to business (to defeat the Huns) when it is important. I'd like to thank them for making school more bearable. That's not all the staff here those are a few of my favorites. When you come here you can pick some of your favorites!

Meet Evelyn!

My name is Evelyn Leal, I am from Monterrey, Mexico. I have been living in Utah since 2000 and working at Midvale Middle since August 2012. Working at Midvale Middle is a great experience. What I love and enjoy about working at Midvale Middle is the cultural diversity, we have students with a variety of cultural background such as, Indian, American Indian, Asian, Hispanic, European, etc. This variety gives the school the opportunity to share and learn about different traditions from around the world. I enjoy working with kids because they give us the opportunity to learn and teach them at the same time. The school environment could be challenging sometimes for students and adults, but learning about personalities and how to address problems help us to improve the solutions.
I mainly work with Hispanic families providing them with school resources, communication between teachers, staff, and administrators, and general help that families request to get more involved with their students at school.
I recently had the fantastic opportunity to become a US citizen, that gave the experience to realize how important it is to be part of this fantastic nation and am happy to share my experience with my Midvale Family.

My MMS Experience

Hi, My name is Jon.  I'm an 8th grade student at Midvale Middle School. My Midvale Middle experience has been great. It wasn't always so great for me.  Throughout sixth and seventh grade, I was not the best I could be.  I would get kicked out of class, talk back to teachers, always have ISS, not be allowed to walk in the halls during passing period, and my dad was being called down to my school endlessly. My SRI score (reading comprehension)went from a 647 (mid-fourth grade) to a 1,058 (mid-tenth grade) in just 8th grade. I changed my attitude by wanting do better because I always knew I could do better. I just had to find it in myself to actually do it. I'm now an eighth grader,  and am considered a mentor in my school. I now help sixth graders that were going through and are going through the same struggles as I was in sixth and seven grade. I've been a Midvale student my whole life, and not even once have I ever wanted to move to a different school. Midvale just feels like home to me. I could never abandon my home. Yes, Midvale might not be the biggest, fanciest, or best school, but we have one thing that no other school can compete with, we have family, hard workers, and the will to keep fighting until we do better. GO Midvale!

Midvale Elementary Family Game Night

Our community is important to us as students. Being students at Midvale Middle, and being part of a MYP school, has taught us to always give back to our community,  Us students decided to give service back even if it was a little. We helped with the Midvale Elementary Family Game Night and wanted to share our experience.

Family Game Night was interesting to us because we've done different types of service, but nothing really like this. Many of us had to work doing different types of subject games. We also had to interact with families we have never seen before, which really tested some of our top BRICCCKs, especially being caring, communicators, reflective, and open minded. The games were educational and our goal was to teach something new. We also wanted to make sure they knew learning can be fun!

We showed up at Midvale Elementary and got divided into different sets of groups. Some of us had to do mostly math and reading, but we also had the chance to do active activities and also computer games. We went to our stations and the fun began when the kids arrived. Even though the game night only lasted 2 hours the experience lasted even longer.

Our goal was to teach something valuable, that the elementary students could possibly take with them.  We also learned something valuable as well . Helping and serving is a good way to give back to our community. We enjoyed the experience and giving back. Thank you Midvale Elementary for the thank you letters and for letting us help and try something new!

Fun Focused Learning

As a sixth grader here at Midvale Middle, I absolutely love my core classes. Mrs. Goldberg (social studies on the greek team) always has the funnest lessons. we are always doing hands on activities, working as a group, and having enthralling discussions. I feel like this makes me remember the lessons better. During my classes, I feel included and happy, which is good.

An Awesome Moment

As an administrator, I try to walk through all of the classes in the grade level for which I'm responsible at least once every day. Today, as I walked through Mr. Ford's math class, I asked a student to explain to me what the class was studying, "Mean, Median, and Mode," the student responded. I looked at the student's paper, and asked a few questions about how he was determining mode. He started to explain it. Kohen, another student at the table, jumped in to help. Kohen, very excitedly, explained the process for determining mode. The other student thanked Kohen for his help.

After school, I saw Kohen in the office. I exclaimed, "Kohen, you were a rockstar in math today!" Kohen replied, "I know! My brain felt like it went to the gym!"

I love to see students' excitement and growth on a daily basis here at Midvale Middle School. It is my honor to serve as their assistant principal. Kohen, and the rest of our Midvale Family, make me love my job!

The Best Things about Midvale Middle School!!!!

The best part of my experience at MMS is the teachers. They are the most helpful teachers, along with the principal and the assistant principals. This year I have learned a lot, such as writing an essay, decimals, common conversions, and also the science chart called "The Periodic Table". The students at MMS these are also one of the things that are worth coming to MMS. It has been a great experience at Midvale Middle School for me.
